Thoughts for Cops
Confidentiality
by
Randy Emon

As a law enforcement officer, you’ve often had access to confidential information which the public is not privy.  Check out what the Bible says about confidentiality and being trustworthy to those around you:

  • A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret. Proverbs 11:13(NIV)
  • If you argue your case with a neighbor, do not betray another man’s confidence, or he who hears it may shame you and you will never lose your bad reputation. Proverbs 25:9-10(NIV)
  • He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends. Proverbs 17:9(NIV)
  • Putting confidence in an unreliable person is like chewing with a toothache or walking on a broken foot. Proverbs 25:19(NLT)
  • Loyalty makes a person attractive. And it is better to be poor than dishonest. Proverbs 19:22(NLT)
  • “If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. Matthew 18:15(NIV)
  • As surely as a wind from the north brings rain, so a gossiping tongue causes anger! Proverbs 25:23(NLT)
  • Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow. Proverbs 25:18(NLT)
  • There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue,  hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19(NIV)
  • “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness. Exodus 23:1(NIV)
  • Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalms 141:3(NIV)
  • The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. Psalms 37:30(NIV)
