Obedience (The “O” in IronGuys)
by
Randy Emon

Just as Law enforcement officers are required to obey laws, policies, regulations, rules, orders, supervisors and managers, did you know the Bible also addresses obedience in a number of areas regarding many subjects?  Check this out:

  • “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15
  • We must obey God rather than men! Acts 5:29(NIV)
  • “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?" Luke 6:46(NIV)
  • “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Matthew 7:21(NIV)
  • Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22(NIV)
  • Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8(NIV)
  • But Samuel replied: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." 1 Samuel 15:22(NIV)
  • Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.  Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.  Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,  because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. Ephesians 6:5-9(NIV)
  • The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 2 Corinthians 2:9(NIV)
  • Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,  to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. Titus 3:1-2(NIV)
  • Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:  Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13(NIV)
  • “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38
  • Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2(NIV)
  • Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5(NIV)
  • Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2(NIV)
