Our Father in Heaven, our hearts are broken deeply as we mourn with the men and women of the White Mountain Apache Police Department at the loss of Officer David Kellywood shot in the line of duty while performing his job as a peacemaker. Your word describes anyone who serves as a law enforcement officer as follow: “Obey the government, for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow. For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So, if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose.” Romans 13:1-5. So, Lord, we are so thankful that Officer Kellywood and millions of others across America and the world are performing their duties as outlined in Your word to protect and serve their community and country. And as the men and women of the White Mountain Apache Police Department are hurting, we ask You to pour out Your mercy, grace, love, Presence and compassion upon them at this sudden and tragic loss of a young life. We especially lift up the family of Officer Kellywood before Your Throne of Grace. As they are brokenhearted, may You pour out Your love, mercy, comfort, grace, Presence and comfort upon their hearts, minds and spirits. As we know they have shed many tears, we ask You to wrap Your comforting arms around them and carry them through this most difficult time of loss. May anyone hurting be comforted with Your words as follows: “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” We are thankful the suspect who caused this has been stopped but also died. As we know this has emotionally affected many law enforcement officers at that scene who witnessed this tragedy firsthand, may Your grace touch their hearts and prevent them from enduring any short-term or long-term emotional trauma. And in the days to come as the White Mountain Apache Police Department begin the preparations for a final farewell, may You use this service to point many unto the love and mercy of Your Son. May You cause many to be drawn back unto Your side of those who have backslidden and may many hear the good news and receive Your son into their hearts. May You raise up chaplains and Godly officers to be a light to broken hearts in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
