Lord Jesus, we come boldly before Your Throne of Grace as the pain is ever so great and our hearts are broken at this tragic murder of a correctional officer and nurse. As there are countless correctional officers and nurses on-duty 24/7 across America constantly in harm’s way, may You encamp Your angels around every officer and nurse and may they be shielded from any attack. May You grant the investigators supernatural wisdom as they investigate this heinous crime. May You fill every correctional law enforcement officer and nurse with Your Strength and Grace to carry them through this very emotional time. May You be a refuge to every officer. Lord, as we know the family of this officer and nurse are in deep mourning, may Your Holy Spirit bring them peace in the middle of this storm. O’ Lord, we call to You on behalf of the men and women of the Iowa Department of Corrections and ask You to be their comfort and hope for Your word says, “Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.” So Lord, we trust in Your unfailing love. Surround every member of the Iowa Department of Corrections with Your love and grace to carry them through this very difficult time of loss. In the coming weeks as they will be saying a final farewell to their fallen comrades, may Your Holy Spirit bring comfort and a peace that passes all understanding. May You use this tragedy to cause many to re-examine their hearts and may Your Son be revealed to many where they may receive Jesus into their hearts for the forgiveness of sins and receive eternal life. May they know Your word says, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.” Lord, finally, may Your word as follow comfort many in need, “In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.” In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
