Our Gracious Lord, for the second time today, we, again, come with broken hearts into Your Presence as we lift up the men and women of the Nelsonville Police Department who are mourning the tragic loss of Officer Scott Dawley from an on-duty collision. O’ Lord, we know that whenever a co-worker is lost, there is a deep emptiness in the hearts of many that only Your love, grace and mercies can touch and heal. This loss is ever so great to the Jacksonville Police Department as they nearly lost two officers last year who were wounded on-duty. So Lord, we come before Your Awesome throne of Grace to seek Your mercies and comfort for the men and women of the Nelsonville Police Department. May your presence carry them through this very emotional time in this loss of their dear friend and co-worker. As we know the family of Officer Dawley is hurting ever so greatly, we ask You to pour out Your love, grace, peace, mercy, Presence, comfort and everlasting love upon them to carry them through this time of grieving and mourning. May You grant the investigators insight and wisdom to piece together the details of this accident and may it be used to prevent other similar collisions. May Your word bring comfort in the midst of this storm as follow, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” And, “I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” Most importantly may those grieving know Your word says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Lord, as the men and women of the Nelsonville Police Department must again begin the task of preparing a final farewell to Officer Dawley, may You use this time of grief as an opportunity to point many to the Cross. May You cause many to examine their hearts and souls and may many be drawn to the love of Your Son where they may know Your word says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” May You raise up Godly officers, chaplains and others to be a Light to many in need at this emotional time. May you use this tragedy and bring about good where many will come to know Your comfort and receive Your Son as their savior and Lord, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
