Our Lord Jesus, our hearts are broken, O’ Lord, as we join with the men and women of the Unified Police Department in mourning the loss of Officer Doug Barney.  We know the pain is ever so great for the Utah law enforcement community who, just two years ago, still remember the tragic loss of Utah County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Cory Wride and for wounded Deputy Greg Sherwood.   This is just a continuing example of the danger law enforcement officers across America are faced with every day.  Lord, we therefore come in earnestly into Your Presence to seek your endless mercies and grace upon the men and women of the Unified Police Department as they mourn the loss of Officer Doug Barney.  May Your unending love be felt by every member of the department and the entire law enforcement community at this tragic loss.  O’ Lord may every officer be uplifted by Your amazing grace.  Lord, we come before Your Throne of Grace to also lift up Officer Jon Richey who was wounded in this attack.  May You grant every medical doctor and nurse wisdom and insight to treat his injuries and restore him to complete health.  Lord, we know the families of these officers are in deep distress and therefore ask for Your presence and Your Holy Spirit to settle upon each of them as they deal with so many uncertainties in the coming days.  May Your Hands of Mercy and Love supernaturally touch the hearts and minds of the many law enforcement officers in Unified and allied law enforcement agencies who were emotionally affected by this tragedy.  May You forever keep their minds and hearts fixed upon You as their  Hope and keep them from enduring any long term emotional trauma.  May Your mercies gently settle upon the Unified Police Department and the entire Salt Lake Sheriff’s Department.  May many friends, family members and co-workers be drawn to Your side and may many reach out to Your Son for peace and comfort and in whom there is everlasting life.  May Your name forever be glorified in the midst of this tragedy and may many receive Your son in their hearts as their Savior and Lord.  In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
