Our Merciful Lord, is the job of a firefighter no longer sacred?  O' God, we come boldly before Your Throne of Grace as our hearts are deeply broken in the tragic murder of Firefighter John Ulmschneider and for wounded Morningside Volunteer Firefighter Kevin Swain.  Lord, we first want to lift up Firefighter Swain into Your arms of love and ask You to provide him with the best medical care possible.  May You instill wisdom and insight into the medical doctors treating him and may they render the correct surgery and treatment available.  May Your Holy Spirit settle upon Firefighter Swain and surround him with Your Arms of love.  And as his family is at his side supporting and loving him, grant them peace in their hearts and minds that You are in control.  We next lift up the family of Firefighter John Ulmschneider who are in deep mourning at this tragic, senseless and unexpected loss.  May Your Holy Spirit move greatly in their hearts and minds and console them by the presence of Your Amazing Grace.  May Your amazing mercies additionally touch all of the first responders, firefighters and police officers who were at that horrific scene and grant them mercy, peace and grace to carry them through this tragedy.  O’ Lord, we lastly lift up the Prince George’s County Fire and Police Department and Morningside Volunteer Fire Department and ask You to hold them ever so tightly in Your Arms of Love.  As we know this has affected them emotionally and spiritually, we ask You to raise up Godly officers, firefighters and chaplains to bring encouragement and healing to their co-workers.  And as they must prepare a final farewell for Firefighter John Ulmschneider, may You use this service to point many to Jesus in whom there is forgiveness of sins and eternal life,  this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
