Our God of Mercy, Every law enforcement officer in America is burdened with heavy hearts as we join in mourning with the Memphis Police Department in the senseless murder of Officer Verdell Smith.  Lord, we are so very grateful that the suspect was apprehended and will be able to stand trial for this heinous act of violence against one of Your servants of righteousness.  We ask You Lord to uphold the hearts, minds and spirits of the many co-workers and friends so deeply affected by this tragedy.  As we know Officer Smith’s family are grieving ever so greatly at this loss, may they intimately sense Your Presence right now carrying them through this time of loss.  May each of them come to know that You will always be their Rock, their Fortress and their Deliver and be with them through this ordeal.  And most importantly, during this difficult time, may they know they can lean on You for strength as they walk through the valley of the shadow of death and especially sense Your presence.  May many officers, co-workers, friends and family members be drawn close to Your side and understand how much You love them.  May the suspect be presented with the Gospel of Christ and may he come to know your love and especially Your forgiveness even though he must face judgment for this crime.  May you grace uphold every officer, medical doctor, paramedics and first responders who we know are often affected just as much.  May Your mercies prevent them from any long term emotional strain.  And as the Memphis Police Department must no prepare a final farewell for Officer Smith, may Your name be Glorified and may many come to receive You as their Savior and Lord.  This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
