"Do You Still Love the World?"
By
Doni Daudel
Chaplain, Beaumont (CA) Police Department

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever 1John 2:15-17

Do you love or still love the world and the things of the world? Are you led and driven by your fleshly desires? Is God, His Word and prayer your primary focus or are you striving for the temporary “ata-boys,” titles, physical gratification and trinkets that will burn like stubble in the presence of a Christ? In Joshua 24:15, Joshua asked a question and made this statement: “And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD..” What about you?

Too many professing Christians are playing games with God. They go to church on Sunday and live like Hell Monday-Saturday..! I’ll preach this all day because I was “that guy!” I’d sneak in, go to the top row in the balcony, pretend to listen to the message while I was still feeling the effects of the night before and bolt out as soon as the preacher started to pray. Let me tell you friends, that is the most dangerousness place you can be! Ain’t no “ridin the fence” with Christ. You are either for Him, walking with and serving Him or you are for and serving that old devil. It is time to make a choice.

In 2Corinthians 6:2, Paul said: “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation..” There was an old saying in the 80’s: “Get right or get left behind..” This would be a modern adaptation of Joshua’s statement in Joshua 24:15, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve..” You cannot keep dipping your toes in the “river of sin and the world ” and be a true follower and “child of God.” I heard an old country preacher say, “The devil don’t poke a dead dog..!” A “dead dog” is no threat to the devil but someone choosing to follow Christ is. You’re either “all in” or “ya ain’t in at all..!!!” Today is the perfect day to abandon the world and flesh, and choose to truly follow and serve Christ.
