"The LORD Watches Over You"
By

1 A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip— He who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep you from all harm— He will watch over your life; 8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:1-8 (NIV)

God speaks incredible encouragement through the Psalmist. God, the Maker of Heaven and earth, tells us of His great love and provision for us, and that His protection is always upon us. God reminds us that He never sleeps and His watchful eye is always upon us. Pastor David Guzik said: “When we look to the LORD, we have confidence in the fact that God does not sleep. The idea is repeated in verse 4 for emphasis. God’s watchful eye is always open, looking with love and care upon His people..”

Is this a promise you believe in? When tough times and difficult situations arise, do we rest in this great promise and trust that God is aware, always watching and will provide our every need(Phil 4:19)? If we’re honest and transparent we will admit that there are times when we struggle with these promises. Yet when look at our lives, where we came from and where we are today, I have no doubt we can all see the incredible blessing, guidance, protection and provision of the Maker of Heaven and earth who never sleeps nor slumbers.

Verse 5 says: “The LORD is your keeper..” The LORD surrounds, protects and is watching His flock like the good Shepherd. Verses 7-8 say: The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore..” Three times the Psalmist uses the word “preserve.” In this context the word “preserve” means: “to keep, have charge of, guard, keep watch, protect, save life..” What an amazing promise..! Read this Psalm several times and insert your name where it says “you.” Every Word of scripture is true and every promise is “yours” to claim as Gods child.
