“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness..”
1John 1:9
Have you ever become frustrated and felt totally defeated in your walk with God? You’re in a season of great blessing. Your time in prayer and study fill your heart with incredible joy and peace. You are in a state of bliss you’ve never imagined possible..! Then, out of nowhere, you crash and burn. You do or say something that would make a Marine blush and you’re devastated. You want to run and hide. You can’t seem to run fast enough or far enough from God because of your shame. Yet God wants us to do the exact opposite. Let’s explore…
Many believers have this misconception that we’re never gonna crash and burn after giving our life to Christ. If this is you, I’m here to correct and encourage you. 1John 1:8,10 say: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us..” John said this after Jesus died, rose again and ascended to heaven. Here’s the truth. As long as we’re in these flawed flesh and bones bodies, we’re going to sin. But God…
God, through Christ, redeemed us. Jesus paid our debt to sin forever so we can run to God when we fail. Acts 3:19 gives us a beautiful promise: “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord..” No matter how badly we fail, God wants us to run to Him knowing and trusting that He is merciful, gracious and forgiving. Even if you’ve been like a prodigal son or daughter, your Heavenly Father is waiting with open arms to receive as His precious child. Don’t buy the lies of the devil. When you fail repent, confess your sin and get back on track. God loves you and He’s not finished using you yet.
