Our Merciful Lord, Our hearts are breaking and grieving again today at
this tragic loss of California Highway Patrol Motorcycle Officer Kirk
Griess. Lord, we know the pain must be so so very great for the men and
women of the California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement community.
O’ Lord, we come boldly before Your Throne of Grace for we know You are the God of all
comfort, our Everlasting Father and our Prince of Peace. We therefore ask
for Your mercies and grace to descend upon the many co-workers and friends
of Officer Griess and may you draw them ever so close to Your side to
intimately know Your love, grace, peace, mercy and comfort. Lord, we
especially lift up the family of Officer Griess and ask for Your grace to
made so abundant to them as they are in obvious shock and grief. May Your
Holy Spirit reach into the hearts of those in deep emotional pain and fill
them with Your Presence and comfort of Your Holy Spirit. May every law
enforcement officer, co-worker, friend and family member intimately know
that You will be their Refuge and their Strength. May they know they can
fully depend on You to carry them through this very difficult time. May You
grant the investigators with supernatural wisdom to be able to reconstruct
the collision and to determine the facts. As we know Your ways are not our
ways, we seek Your wisdom to touch the hearts of many and to reveal Your
will and peace to all in a way that will bring Glory to Your name. May You
use this tragedy to draw many unto the love of Your Son because Your Word
says if the Son will set you free, you will be free indeed. As the men and
women of the California Highway Patrol must begin the task to prepare a
final farewell to Officer Griess, may You use this service as a time to
encourage broken hearts and draw many unto the love of Your Son. And if any
have strayed from Your path, may they know Your Word says, “Come to me, all
who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will
find rest for your souls.“ May many experience inward freedom in their heart
and spirit because of Your mercy and peace. May Your grace continue to be
revealed and made real in the hearts of those greatly mourning. May many
come to know Your Son in a real way, in the name of Jesus Christ we pray,
Amen.
