Our God of Mercy, every law enforcement officer in America is burdened with heavy hearts as we join in mourning with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department in the on-duty murder of one of their deputies in which a suspect was also found dead. As the facts surrounding this encounter are limited, we know the hearts of many are so heavy with anguish and sorrow. So, it is You, Lord, to whom we call upon to uphold the hearts, minds and spirits of the many co-workers and friends so deeply affected by this tragedy. As we know the family members of this fallen deputy are grieving ever so greatly at this loss, may they intimately sense Your Presence right now carrying them through this time of loss. May each of them intimately know that You will always be their Rock, their Fortress and their Deliverer and will carry them through this difficult time of loss. May they know at any time, that they can lean on You for strength as they walk through the valley of the shadow of death and sense Your presence. As many other law enforcement officers, paramedics and first responders who responded to this incident occurred, we know many hearts are in deep pain and sorrow. As this scene is being investigated, may You grant the investigators with supernatural wisdom and skill to be able to determine how this unwitnessed incident occurred. May many deputies, co-workers, friends and family members be drawn close to Your side and understand how much You love them for You will never leave them nor forsake them. May the Good News of Your Son, Jesus, be revealed to the heart of every officer, medical doctor, paramedics and first responders. May Your mercies prevent any of them from enduring any short term or long-term emotional strain. And as the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department must now begin to prepare a final farewell for their fallen colleague, may Your name be Glorified and may many come to receive You as their Savior and Lord. May You raise up Godly officers and chaplains to be a representative of Your love and grace to anyone in need of a touch from the Master’s Hand. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
