Our Father in Heaven, hear our prayer, O’ Lord, as we lift up the heartbroken men and women of the Phoenix Police Department in this tragic traffic fatality of their friend and co-worker, Officer Paul Rutherford. O’ Lord, it is only YOU to whom we can turn for comfort at this sudden loss of a dear friend and co-worker. May You be our Rock, Fortress and Deliverer through this time of loss. So Lord, we seek Your unfailing love to sweetly settle upon Officer Rutherford’s family who are deeply mourning this tragic loss. Lord, in the midst of this most difficult time for the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Rutherford, may Your presence, comfort and amazing grace be made evident in their hearts and minds. Lord, we ask for Your Arms of Love and Mercy to tightly hold Officer Rutherford’s entire family ever so close to Your side. May his family intimately and deeply sense Your love, grace, mercy, comfort, and most of all, Your Presence in their hearts. Even in the middle of this tragedy, may You bring about good to everyone. May You give the investigators wisdom to piece together the details and facts from this collision. As the Phoenix Police Department must now begin the difficult process to prepare to say a final farewell to Officer Rutherford, may You use this time to draw many co-workers and others ever so close to the Cross of Christ. May Your Holy Spirit, even now, begin to touch the hearts of so many. May You raise up chaplains and other Christian law enforcement officers to minister to those hurting in their hearts. So Lord, may, You, our God of Hope fill every officer, friend and family member with all Joy and Peace because of the everlasting gift of eternal life found only in Your Son. May You take this tragedy and bring about good to the hearts of many Phoenix Police Officers. And if anyone have strayed from Your path, may You use this farewell service to speak to hearts and bring them back unto Your Side. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
