Our Merciful Father, there is no way to express the sorrow and grief we are experiencing at this horrific attack on three CHP officers in which one has lost his life. As we know the pain the families of these officers are going through, we lift them before Your Throne of Grace and ask You to wrap Your Arms of Love around them to hold them ever so tightly as You carry them through this most difficult time. May Your amazing grace and Your Presence surround every member of the California Highway Patrol as we know there are many who are deeply brokenhearted at the loss and injury to their dear friends and co-workers. O’ Lord, it is Your Presence we seek to uphold them and the many allied agencies affected at this senseless loss of one of Your Peacemakers. May Your following words resonate in the hearts of many who are mourning and grieving ever so greatly: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” As investigators gather the facts surrounding this crime, grant them grace and mercy as we know this is a very difficult crime to be an investigator when the victim is a law enforcement officer. As the news reports the suspect has also died, we ask You Lord, to raise up Godly officers and chaplains to be a representative of Your light and peace at every turn. Lord, as there was a small army of law enforcement officers from the Riverside Police Department, Riverside County Sheriff’s, Riverside fire fighters, paramedics and countless hospital emergency personnel involved in treating these wounded peacemakers, may Your amazing grace, presence and comfort settle upon their hearts and minds as we know there is a deep emptiness in their hearts from seeing this horrific scene. May many be consoled with Your words as follows: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” And, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” As the California Highway Patrol will now be tasked to make preparations to say a final farewell to their fallen comrade in the coming weeks, may You use this as a time to draw many men and women unto the love of Your Son in whom there is forgiveness of sins and everlasting life. May many come to know Your Peace for Your Word says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.“ O’ Lord, continue to comfort the families of these fallen servants and may You bring about good through this senseless and tragic loss, in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
