Our Gracious Lord, because Your word tells us that You alone are our Rock and our Fortress and an ever-present help in times of trouble, we earnestly come before your Throne of Grace to lift up the New York City Police Department as they are mourning the loss of one of their own co-workers, Officer Brian Mulkeen. Lord, may your sustaining grace, peace and mercy touch the hearts and souls of every member of the New York City Department as they cope with this sudden and tragic loss. May your love and grace especially be with the family of Officer Mulkeen and sustain them through this very difficult time. As the news reports indicate the suspect was also shot and died, may You grant the investigators wisdom and insight as they gather all of the facts surrounding this murder of one of Your peacemakers. As Your love, grace, peace, mercy, comfort and Your presence carry the men and women of the New York City Police Department though his horrific loss, may they know it is You who will be carrying them through this difficult time of loss. O’ Lord, as the members of the New York City Police Department will now have to prepare a final farewell to their friend and co-worker, may the power of your Holy Spirit settle upon each officer and grant them strength in their hearts. May the love and Jesus be made real to each of them. May every officer, family member and friend intimately know that no matter what, you said You will never leave nor forsake those who love you and have received you into their hearts. May they also know that You do not want anyone to perish but to come to repentance in You alone. May many be drawn to the Cross of Christ where there is mercy and grace. May your comfort settle upon every member of the New York City Police Department and countless law enforcement officers who were involved in that difficult incident. O’ Lord, hold them so very close to your heart. May Your grace preserve the hearts and spirits of the officers who were present when their co-worker was shot and prevent them from enduring sleepless nights or any long term emotional trauma. May You raise up chaplains and other Christian officers to bring comfort to those in need. May Your word dwell richly in the heart of those in need as follows: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”; this we ask in the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
