O’ Lord, we are so grateful for Your wonderful mercies upon this wounded firefighter and are so thankful that You spared his life.  As the news reports he is in stable condition with a leg wound, we ask you to grant the doctor’s wisdom and insight to accurately diagnose and treat his wound.  We, therefore, lift up this firefighter before Your Throne of Grace and ask You to wrap Your loving arms around him as he recovers from this near-death experience.  May Your peace that passes all understanding sustain this firefighter and may he be drawn ever close to Your side for the continuing comfort of Your Holy Spirit.  May Your mercy, grace, love and everlasting comfort also settle upon the family of this firefighter and may Your grace additionally touch every member of the Chicago Fire Department as they rally around to support their wounded comrade and his family.  As this firefighter was said to be an innocent victim of gang-related crossfire, may You use this life-threatening incident as a reminder and training aid to firefighters across America and the world to forever be vigilant in everything they do.  If any firefighter in Chicago or abroad have been emotionally or spiritually challenged from the near-death encounter, may Your words bring comfort to those in need, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” And, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”   Lastly Lord, even though this firefighter was not intentionally shot, may every Chicago Firefighter know that You ordained their jobs to protect and serve their community wherever they may be.  And through this near-death encounter, may firefighters everywhere come to recognize their need to draw near to You for You will then draw near to them.  May many come to receive Your forgiveness and receive Your Son as their Savior and Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
