O’ God, our hearts are wrenched and our spirits challenged at these attacks of more of Your peace officers simply performing their duties as peacemakers. First Lord, we come in very great earnest to lift up one of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies shot in the eye who is reported to be in critical condition. Lord, it is only by Your mercy, grace and healing touch that we know You can spare the life of this deputy. May You continue to place in his path the correct medical specialists who will be able to repair and restore this deputy to full health. O’ God spare his life. We also want to lift the other deputy into Your precious arms of love. As this deputy had to witness this horrific attack, we are thankful he was able to stop the suspect who lost his life. May this deputy sense Your love, grace, mercy and comfort carrying him through these difficult circumstances. And we also want to lift up the men and women of the Iowa State Patrol as they mourn the loss of Sgt. Jim Smith. Lord, we know the pain in the hearts of so many co-workers is so great and know Your word says to “Come to me all who are weary and with heavy burdens and I will give you rest.” So, unto You Lord, so many hearts are hurting. We especially lift up the family of Sgt. Smith and the family of the critically wounded Salt Lake Deputy into Your arms of love. May they intimately and deeply sense Your Presence and Amazing grace carrying them through this horrific loss which feels like a punch in the stomach. As we know so many are hurting and are at a loss for words, we ask that You would pour out Your Holy Spirit upon the hearts and spirits of so many in need. May Your words as follows deeply provide comfort to many, “… the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” And, “The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” And, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” O’ God, pour out Your love and grace on the hearts of so many in need. May You heal this deputy and restore him to full health. May You grant the investigators wisdom to gather the facts and may other attacks on Your peacemakers be stopped, in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
