Our Father in heaven, We come in earnest prayer to lift up the men and women of the Virginia State Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department who are both in deep mourning at the loss of their dear friend and co-worker, Sgt. J. Michael Phillippi and Deputy David “Bubba” Johnson. Although these men were over 600 miles apart at different times protecting their community, they were both tragically involved in on-duty solo vehicle accidents that took their lives. Lord, every day there are thousands upon thousands of law enforcement officers across the U.S. and the world driving police vehicles protecting their communities. May Your hands of grace and mercy touch those many officers and protect them at all times. May you grant every law enforcement officer wisdom to drive defensively and safely as a routine part of their job. May Your grace, mercy and peace especially touch the many co-workers and friends who have been deeply affected at the loss of Sgt. J. Michael Phillippi and Deputy David “Bubba” Johnson. May your hands of mercy and arms of love touch the families of these law enforcement officers and sustain them with Your peace that passes all understanding. And in the coming days as both agencies prepare to say farewell to these fallen men, may many look inward to reflect upon their hearts and souls. May the loss of these two men cause many to be drawn to your Son in whom there is endless love, grace and peace. And if any do not personally know His love, may those in need be given and opportunity to receive Your Son as their Savior and Lord. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
