Our Merciful Heavenly Father, our hearts are broken and spirits heavy as we mourn the on-duty murder of Sgt. Cory Maynard. Lord, we, therefore, come ever so boldly and needy before Your Throne of Grace as we lift up the men and women of the West Virginia State Police as they are grieving the loss of one of their own co-workers. First and foremost, Lord, we ask You to pour out Your Amazing Grace on them and may it be Your Presence and Love sustaining them through this horrific tragedy. May Your mercies and grace additionally uphold Sgt. Maynard’s family who are in deep mourning and grieving ever so greatly at this loss. May they deeply sense Your love, grace, peace, mercy, comfort and Presence at all times. May You grant the investigators with supernatural insight and wisdom to be able to determine the facts in this incident and prevent any further attacks on Your servants and are so thankful the suspect was apprehended. May your peace that transcends all comprehension be made ever so real in the heart of the entire West Virginia State Police. As Your word says to cast all our cares on You for You care for us, Lord, we come to You on behalf of the men and women of the West Virginia State Police and entire law enforcement community and seek You love, grace, peace mercy and comfort. May You cause this tragedy to draw many officers and others to seek your Son for peace. In the midst of this incident, we know the men and women of the West Virginia State Police must begin the task of preparing a final farewell to their fallen comrade. May Your mercies and grace guide them and may many be drawn unto Your Son in who them is a peace that passes all understanding. May many be comforted with Your words as follows, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” And, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” May they know that the Joy of the Lord will be their strength as You carry them through this loss of their dear friend, in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
