Our Father in Heaven, we come into Your presence Lord to join with the men and women of the Indiana State Police to mourn this tragic loss of Trooper Aaron Smith from this on-duty, intentional collision. As countless Law enforcement officers across America regularly place themselves in harm’s way every day just like Trooper Smith, may Your grace and protection surround every peace officer at all times. We, therefore, lift up the men and women of the Indiana State Police who are grieving and mourning ever so greatly at this tragic loss. Lord, we ask for Your grace, peace, mercy and comfort to be with Trooper Smith’s family as they cope with this tragic loss. May Your mercies also and touch the men and women of the Indiana State Police and sustain them with Your presence and comfort as they cope with this loss of their dear friend and co-worker. May Your grace, comfort and peace be with the many firefighters, medics and other law enforcement officers who were present at the time of this collision and had to witness this tragedy first-hand—especially, that of a co-worker. We are so thankful the suspect have been arrested. May You grant the investigators wisdom and insight to effectively investigate this collision and gather evidence as these suspects face justice. May you use this tragedy as a reminder to every law enforcement officer to be ever vigilant at all times. And as the Indiana State Police must now prepare a final farewell to Trooper Smith, may You use this service to point many to Jesus Christ. May these words ring true in the hearts of many, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” And, “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” May those mourning be comforted by Your presence and may many be drawn to the love of Your Son, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
