Our Father in Heaven, Our hearts are broken as we join with the men and women of the Topeka Police Department in mourning the tragic loss of Corporal Jason Harwood. Lord, we know You are the only One who can sustain the broken hearts of the many co-workers, family members and friends at this very difficult time. May Your grace, mercy, peace, comfort and presence be made known especially to Corporal Harwood’s wife and two children as they are grieving this senseless loss of a husband and father. O Lord, we know the entire Topeka Police Department is numb in their hearts and spirits at the loss of a dear friend a co-worker who was performing his God-ordained job of a peacemaker. May You bring about good through this tragedy and use this to remind the public and all law enforcement officers to continue to be vigilant at every routine traffic stop as those are often the most dangerous encounters. May Your presence be made real to those grieving as they walk through this valley of the shadow of death for we know You will be right there with them. Bring an amazing peace and comfort to the two small children of Officer Harwood who must now endure the loss of their daddy. We are so thankful the suspect responsible for this murder has been apprehended and ask for justice to prevail. We even ask for the salvation of the soul of this suspect even though he must suffer the consequences of his actions. Grant the investigators strength of character and wisdom to gather all of the facts surrounding this heinous crime against Your servant of righteousness. May Your amazing grace and sweet presence touch the hearts of the many members of the Topeka Police Department. May they realize that You will be their strength and shield—an ever present help in this time of trouble. May they draw near to You for we know You will draw near to them. May Your peace that passes all understanding be made real to so many broken hearts. May You use this to cause many who have backslidden to examine their hearts and seek Your mercy and forgiveness. Use this loss to point many members of the Topeka Police Department to the grace and mercy found in Your Son in whom there is everlasting life. May many come to know Your Son in a personal way and receive Him into their hearts to be their Savior and Lord. May Your love sustain them and hold them tightly in Your arms, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
