Our Father in Heaven, our hearts are broken as we grieve with the men and women of the University of Colorado Springs Police Department in this senseless and tragic on-duty murder of Officer Garrett Swasey. O’ Lord, we continue to lift up the civilians and five other law enforcement officers in Colorado Springs who were also wounded in this encounter. We also seek your mercy and grace upon the families of the civilians who lost their lives. Lord, whenever a law enforcement officer loses his/her life in the line of duty, there is a deep pit of emptiness and despair that settle upon the hearts of those who were present during this encounter to include countless other law enforcement officers. Lord, as Your word says to cast all our cares upon You for You care for us, that is what we are vicariously doing for the men and women of law enforcement in and around Colorado Springs. Grace is what we ask for Lord—yes, Your amazing grace. May Your Holy Spirit settle upon the hearts and minds of countless law enforcement officers and their families. As the news reports indicate Officer Swasey was involved in an evangelical Christian church, we thank You for the eternal life You gave him and ask that Your grace and mercies would take this loss and bring hope and peace to many others. As the University of Colorado Springs Police Department will now be preparing a final farewell for Officer Swasey, may this service be used to bring Glory to the name of Jesus as a time of celebration and hope. As we know Officer Swasey is in Your Presence right now, may many others come to know that Your Words say, “if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Lord, we ask You to prevent any officer from enduring the rigors of any short-term or long-term trauma. May you use this service to boldly proclaim the love of Your Son and may many come to receive Your Son as Savior and Lord as the result of this loss. May You raise up Godly officers and chaplains to share Your amazing love, in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
