Our Gracious Lord, as this Christmas time is to be a season of joy, our hearts are deeply broken as we join with the men and women of the Louisville Metro Police Department as they mourn this tragic loss of Officer Zach Cottongim from an on-duty collision. As countless Law enforcement officers across America regularly place themselves in harm’s way every day just like Officer Cottongim, may Your grace and protection surround every officer at all times. Lord, we ask for Your grace, peace, mercy, Presence and comfort to be with Officer Cottongim’s family as they cope with this tragic loss during this holiday season. We know the pain is ever so great in their hearts. May Your mercies also and touch the men and women of the Louisville Metro Police Department and sustain them with Your presence and comfort as they cope with this loss of their young dear friend and co-worker. May Your grace, comfort and peace be with the many fire-fighters and other law enforcement officers who were present at the time of this collision and had to witness this tragedy first-hand. May Your grace also touch the many paramedics, firefighters and other first responders who assisted in this highly emotional scene and draw them close to Your heart. Also, may Your grace and comfort touch the countless medical staff who worked so feverishly to try to save the life of Officer Cottongim. May You grant the investigators wisdom and insight to effectively investigate this collision. May you use this tragedy as a reminder to every law enforcement officer to be ever vigilant at all times. And as the Louisville Metro Police Department must now prepare a final farewell to Officer Cottongim, may You use this service to point many to Jesus Christ. May these words ring true in the hearts of many, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” At this final farewell service for Officer Cottongim, may many hear the good news about Jesus and know that, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. May those mourning be comforted by Your presence and may many be drawn to the love of Your Son, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
