O’ Merciful Lord, we are so grateful for Your wonderful mercies upon Farmington Police Officer Joseph Barreto and are so thankful that You spared his life. As the news reports he is in stable condition with a gunshot wound and has since been released from the hospital, we ask you to grant the doctor’s wisdom and insight to continue to accurately diagnose and treat his wound and restore him to full health. We, therefore, lift up Officer Barreto before Your Throne of Grace and ask You to wrap Your loving arms around him as he recovers from this near-death experience. We are so thankful for the strength and might You gave him to endure in which he had to fire his weapon. May Your peace that passes all understanding sustain him and may he be drawn ever close to Your side for the continuing comfort of Your Holy Spirit as he recovers. May Your mercy, grace, love and everlasting comfort also settle upon the family of Officer Barreto as they cope with this near-tragedy. And may Your grace additionally touch every member of the Farmington Police Department as they rally around to support their wounded comrade and his family. As the suspects initially escaped, we are thankful the suspects have since been arrested after a massive manhunt. May every law enforcement officer across America know that You ordained their job as a peacemaker to protect and serve their community wherever they may be. And through this near-death encounter, may many law enforcement officers come to recognize their need to draw near to You for You will then draw near to them. May Your words speak to the hearts of those in need, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” And, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” May You raise up Godly officers and chaplains to love and point their co-workers unto Your Son. May even the suspects come to know Your love and mercy. Lastly because of Your peace and grace, may many come to receive Your forgiveness and receive Your Son as their Savior and Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
