Our Merciful and Gracious Father, we come before your Throne of Grace to lift a Laurel Police Officer into Your Presence who was wounded in the line on-duty. As the news reports he was shot and has been treated and released from a hospital, we ask You to surround this officer with Your Presence and Your Holy Spirit as he reflects on this near-death encounter. We also want to lift up the family of this wounded officer and all of the other officers who were involved in this incident into Your Gracious Presence. As this officer’s family is now with their loved one, may they intimately know Your Presence, love, grace, peace, mercy and comfort at every moment. Give them peace in the middle of this storm. As we know many other law enforcement officers who were at that scene are dealing with the emotional realities of this incident, we ask for your grace, mercy, peace and love settle upon their hearts and minds and sustain them with Your Amazing Grace. As the news reports indicate the suspect has been arrested, may You grant the investigators wisdom and insight to gather the facts in this encounter. May your peace that passes all understanding sustain all of the officers involved in that incident. Finally, Lord, may your Holy Spirit settle upon the minds of every officer with the Laurel Police Department. May your grace preserve them emotionally and spiritually and keep them from enduring any future emotional trauma that can result from these highly stressful incidents. May Your words as follow bring comfort to those in need of Your touch, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” And, “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” May the love of Jesus Christ be revealed to every officer and family member. May they know that Jesus said, “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” May they know, that although they may have just walked through the valley of the shadow of death, You will forever be with them—for we know You will never leave us nor forsake us. May many Laurel officers have an opportunity to know Your amazing grace and forgiveness and may many receive You into their hearts as their Savior and Lord, this we ask in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
