Our Merciful and Gracious Lord, the law enforcement community across America is again heartbroken to the news that four more of their colleagues have been shot on-duty—this time with the Lafayette Police Department. Our hearts are especially sorrowful as we learn that one Lafayette officer lost his life. As the news reports the other three officers survived and are being treated at a local hospital, we ask You to continue to grant the doctors wisdom and insight to effectively treat their wounds and bring about a full recovery. We are so thankful the suspect has been arrested. As the investigators are on scene, may you grant them supernatural and natural wisdom to piece together all of the facts at yet another attack on Your peacemakers. And as the family members of each officer have been greatly affected and are in obvious shock and mourning ever so greatly, we seek the power and presence of Your Holy Spirit to descend upon their hearts and minds and comfort them as a loving father. O’ Lord, may You wrap Your arms around them and hold them as they are heartbroken at this loss of their loved one. And as the men and women of the Lafayette Police Department are also deeply brokenhearted and in great sorrow at this loss of one of their co-workers, may Your Words as follows bring them amazing comfort, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” Lord, we want to lift up the three other wounded officers and the many other officers who were present when this incident occurred. May You touch their hearts and minds right now as we know they are hurting ever so greatly at this loss of their friend. May Your words as follow touch them right now, “Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Lord, as we know many officers will have sleepless nights and their thoughts clouded, may Your Holy Spirit touch their hearts and minds and prevent them from any short-term or long-term emotional trauma. And as the Lafayette Police Department must now begin to make preparations for a final farewell for their fallen comrade, may You use that service as a time to point many unto the love of Your Son. May this cause many officers and family members to place their complete trust in You, the Author of Life. Comfort many with these words, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus—in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
