Praying for the Hinds County (MS) Sheriff in the on-duty murder of Deputy Martin Shields, Jr.; for a wounded Oakland (CA) Housing Authority Police Officer and a wounded Garland (TX) Police Officer

Our Merciful Lord, these past several weeks have been extremely vicious upon your peacemakers across the U.S. Our hearts are again broken, O’ Lord, as we join with the men and women of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department in mourning the loss of Deputy Martin Shields, Jr. We, first, come boldly into Your Presence to lift the men and women of the Oakland Housing Authority Police and the Garland Police Department as we lift up their two wounded officers before Your Throne of Grace. As these officers are being treated at a hospital, may You provide them with the correct medical specialists and restore them to full health. As we know this loss of Deputy Shields has deeply affected them, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department the entire local Mississippi law enforcement community, we ask for Your Arms of Loving kindness to supernaturally uphold them as You carry them through this difficult time of loss. As we know the family of Deputy Shields is in deep mourning, we ask You to be their Rock, their Fortress and their Refuge right now and in the days ahead. May they intimately sense Your Presence in their hearts and minds as You carry them through this most difficult time. May Your Peace that passes all understanding be supernaturally revealed to the men and women of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department and their many family members and friends. As the family and friends are rallying around their wounded co-workers at the Oakland Housing Authority Police and the Garland Police Department, may Your amazing grace be revealed to them as You carry them through these near-death encounters. As peace officers were forced to fire their weapons in each incident, we are thankful the suspects in Texas and Mississippi are no longer a threat and are thankful the suspect in Oakland was wounded and arrested. O’ Lord, may You grant the investigators wisdom to piece together the facts surrounding each incident. May the comfort and presence of Your Holy Spirit settle upon the men and women of these three law enforcement agencies and sustain them with Your arms of loving kindness. As we know traumatic incidents like these can affect the lives of many, we ask Your Holy Spirit to settle upon the heart and mind anyone who has been traumatized and preserve their mind, body and spirit in Your Arms of Love. May they be kept from enduring any short-term or long-term emotional trauma. May anyone struggling emotionally or spiritually know Your word says, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most-High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” And, “I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” In the coming days as the men and women of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department begin to prepare a final farewell for their fallen comrade, may You use this solemn ceremony to point anyone grieving unto the love of Your Son. May many examine their hearts and be drawn to the love of Jesus and receive his forgiveness and eternal life. May You bring about good from this loss of this young deputy. May Your words continue to comfort those in need, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” And, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God”. Finally, as a result of this tragedy, may You raise up Godly officers and chaplains to reach out and point many to the Cross of Christ, in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
