Our Father in Heaven, once again, our hearts are broken and our spirits weak as we mourn with the men and women of the Chicago Police Department in this tragic on-duty murder of an officer and wounding of a second in critical condition. O’ Lord, there are times when we don’t know how to pray to You for the grief is so great. Nonetheless Lord, we know You know our hearts and hear our groans of pain at the loss of one of Your servant peacemakers. We first want to lift this wounded officer into Your healing arms. As the news reports he is critical, may You continue to grant the doctor’s wisdom to treat his wound(s) and restore him to full health. May You place the correct medical specialists in his path. O’ God, spare his life! We also lift a wounded Secret Service agent into Your arms and seek Your grace and mercy to be upon him. Thank You, Lord, for sparing his life. As we know he is likely in pain from the blunt trauma to his chest, may You continue to pour out Your healing touch upon his life and restore him to full health. So Lord, we come boldly before Your Throne of Grace to lift up the men and women of the Chicago Police Department and U.S. Secret Service and ask for Your mercies to touch their hearts with Your hands of loving kindness. May Your grace uphold those Chicago officers whose hearts are broken at the loss of a dear friend and co-worker. May Your mercies and amazing grace especially settle upon the family of the fallen officer. May they intimately sense Your presence around them at all times knowing that it is You who will be carrying them through this difficult time of loss. May Your grace and healing touch continue to also be upon this critically wounded Chicago officer and Secret Service Agent. As we know there were a number of officers present who witnessed the aftermath of these incidents up close, may You fill each with Your love, Your comfort, Your Presence and may Your endless mercies to carry them through this difficult time. May You grant the investigators wisdom to gather the facts in these incidents. We thank You, Lord, Your Word clearly says that the law enforcement officer does not carry his sword (or firearm) in vain. As we know this traumatic event has created great emotional trauma in the hearts of many law enforcement officers, we ask for Your mercies and comfort to be poured out upon them and may You preserve their hearts and minds from enduring any long-term traumatic fallout. May Your word as follow comfort those hurting, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” So Lord, Grant grace to the many first responders, medics and doctors who were involved in the life-saving efforts and treatment of all involved. And in the coming days as preparations will be made to say farewell to their fallen comrade in Chicago, may many law enforcement officers be drawn close to You where they may examine their hearts and reveal their need for a personal relationship with You Lord, who is our Forgiver and Savior. Grant hope and comfort in the hearts of those grieving ever so greatly. Wrap your Arms around every member of the Chicago Police Department and carry them through difficult days ahead. May you fill the investigators with wisdom as they piece together the details of these incidents in which the suspect was arrested at both scenes. May many come to intimately know Your love personally and receive You as their Savior and Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
